Our Learn To Skate classes are designed to develop skating skills used for figure skating, hockey, speed and recreational skating. All classes use the Learn to Skate USA Curriculum. Before registering please plan ahead! You will need to create a SportsEngine account .

Whether you are brand new to skating, have taken lessons before, or just love to skate outside, we have the perfect class for you! There are options for ages 3-5, beginners age 6 and above, and classes for the more advanced skaters. Take look below to see which class is best fit for your skater.

Learn To Skate Classes
Sundays evenings from 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Classes will be offered in 30 minute increments depending on level of skater will determine the time.
This year's class breakdown:
Snow Plow Sam (Pre-School) 16 Week Session - Cost is $475 For the season of lessons, you can pay in one lump of choose our monthly options. There is also a $20 fee for Learn To Skate USA membership that is included in your registration cost.
School Aged Program (K-12)16 Week Session - Cost is $475 For the season of lessons, you can pay in one lump of choose our monthly options. There is also a $20 fee for Learn To Skate USA membership that is included in your registration cost.
All levels are able to participate in our Holiday and Spring Shows. All skaters who participate in the full season will receive their show costume and ice costs for the spring show at no additional cost.
Learn To Skate Mini Sessions
We offer a Fall and Winter Mini sessions session. The cost of this session is $250. This session does not include participation in our Holiday show or Spring ice show. Classes will be on Sunday Evenings, 30 minute classes depending on level and are between 4:30pm-6:30pm depending on level. You will receive an email will class time after registration.
It is the parents responsibilities to read through the Parent Handbook below to understand the requirements of the program.
ASPIRE Class - 2026 Season
Sunday and Monday Evenings. - This class runs during our regular season from October-February
Sunday - Skater will be in their 30 min LTS Class working on skill building and technique.
Mondays 6:30pm-7:45pm - Aspire Class - this will focus on skaters that are wanting to learn to more of the figure skating side of skating. This class includes off ice and on ice class instruction. Skaters in the this class also participate in our home Competition in February.
Cost is $800 for the full season. You may also select our monthly option payment option. This will also include a $20 fee for skater Learn To Skate Membership.
*Competition is an additional cost due later in the season.
Aspire class for Junior club skaters is great way for you skater to continue group instruction, have more practice time, and learn different skills. The class will run from 6:30pm-7:45pm and will consist of 20 minutes of Off Ice and 45 Min of on ice instruction.
This class is open to all Jr Club skaters who have not past their Preliminary Moves in the Field test or Preliminary Frees Skate test.
2026 Season:
We have 2 adult classes, this will be a beginner class for people who are just learning to skate or want to be more comfortable on the ice. The cost of these session will be $475 for the full season. Mini sessions will be $250. Each participant will also have to pay a $20 membership fee to US Figure Skating.
All people wanting to participate in our Family Skate Nights MUST sign/fill out the form below prior to stepping on the ice.
Registered VFSC skaters do not need to fill this out as it was part of their registration.
*No street shoes are allowed on family skate night ice due to liability*
The Registration "Learn to Skate USA" is not currently available.
WEAR PROPER FITTING SKATES
Skates should be snug but shouldn’t pinch your toes. Find a pair of skates with adequate support and comfortable fitting, and practice walking around in them before taking the ice. When fitting, your feet, especially the heel, should not move around inside the boot when laced up. A close fit gives you more control and support on the ice. Be aware that skate sizes are not always the same as your shoe size. Avoid bulky, thick socks and wear lightweight, thin socks inside your skates. Thick socks create uncomfortable bumps and make
We offer a skate rental program for all Learn To Skate skaters. Your skater will receive a quality boot that is appropriate for their age and skill level. If you skaters foot grows or skates do not fit right you can exchange at anytime with no additional cost to the parent. We will have a registration night prior to lessons where you can pick up and be fitted for skates.
You will be responsible for getting your skaters skates sharpened throughout the season. Where to get your skates sharpened:
Essentia Health Sports Center - You can leave your skates at the office and pick up the following day.
Play It Again Sports Baxter
It's important for your skater(s) to remain warm, but also be able to move. Beginner skaters are encouraged to wear warm leggings / light snow pants, light jacket / winter coat, gloves, and a helmet that covers the back of their head.
VFSC has a limited amount of helmets to borrow during the season.
Skaters are not encouraged to wear any extra padding while skating as it prevents movement and muscle memory while learning how to skate.
